Hello WHACAN Community!
Thank you to everyone who joined us on Tuesday! We have incredible momentum following a busy season of community presence and connection, and there are many powerful ways for you to get involved.
Here is a summary of what we covered and what’s coming next:
🎉 Recent Wins & Community Outreach
Good Trouble Lives On & National Night Out: We shared inspiring experiences from both events! At National Night Out alone, we connected directly with community members and handed out 80 WHACAN cards.
Elected Officials: We actively engaged with representatives at the local, state, and federal levels to keep our community’s priorities front and center.
Ongoing Outreach: We will continue our outreach push to keep expanding our network and bringing neighbors together. Next up – we will have a booth at the Latino Festival on 9/19. A call for volunteers will go out in the next few weeks!
🕊️ Immigrant Justice Efforts
We are actively reaching out to build partnerships with organizations already doing vital work on the ground, including Rise, Resistencia, and a group providing direct support at Delaney Hall.
More information on specific opportunities to take action will follow soon.
🗳️ 2026 Election Mobilization & Action Ideas
While our immediate area’s local elections may not be in jeopardy, many key races across New Jersey and the country are on the line. We brainstormed several high-impact ideas to drive turnout and defend democracy:
Informational Flyers: Creating a flyer with a QR code for easy sharing with neighbors and friends.
Overpass Visibility Brigades: Banner-holding actions over the NJ Turnpike to remind commuters to vote.
Postcarding Parties: Writing postcards to voters in vulnerable and high-stakes districts.
Election Day Rides: Collaborating with Black Cabs to provide free rides to the polls on election day.
Voter Registration: Partnering with Rise, with a strong focus on encouraging Vote-By-Mail enrollment.
🤝 Want to Take the Lead?
WHACAN is entirely community-run, which means every member can be a community leader. If you are interested in taking a lead role on any of these initiatives, simply reply directly to this email!
If you want to join a team but are not ready to lead, that’s absolutely fine! Click the Join A Team button below to fill out the form.
Once we have volunteers to lead some of these initiatives, we will be sending targeted emails for each specific action group (Elections, Immigrant Justice, Outreach, etc.) so you can connect with your team easily.
In Solidarity,
The WHACAN Team
